"The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby"

The story of a family left destitute by the death of their patriarch Mr. Nickleby. Nicholas, his mother and his sister turn, in desperation, to their uncle, Ralph Nickleby, who proves to be a disreputable tyrant. The journey that follows introduces us to some of Dickens' greatest characters: Wackford Squeers, Smike, Vincent Cummles, Newman Noggs, Sir Mulberry Hawk and many others!

"Nicholas Nickleby" was the 3rd novel by Charles Dickens, following " The Pickwick Papers" and "Oliver Twist". The novel was inspired by a visit Dickens made to see the living conditions children were forced to endure at a notoriously brutal Yorkshire boarding school. Dickens realized with "Oliver Twist" that a novel, in his hands, could make a difference. Thus was born the so-called " social problem" novel.

This will take place at The Senior Center, 70 Temple St., At 12:30 pm of November 27th, 2018.
